The Southern Center for Human Rights has been working to transform the criminal legal system in the Deep South for 50 years.

We continue to seek an end to the death penalty, debtor’s prisons, unconstitutional prison conditions, racially-biased policing and prosecution, the criminalization of poverty, and mass incarceration. We challenge injustice throughout the current system and work to realize the promise of equal justice under law.

SCHR is funded by donations, grants, and philanthropic dollars. Your gift makes a powerful impact on our work, and donors like you are a necessary part of our mission. We cannot do it without YOU.

2026 is SCHR’s 50th Anniversary, and we’re inviting special gifts and recognition to fortify SCHR for the fight ahead!
